Social Media Conversation Analyst

Basic Qualifications

The Conversation Analyst must possess proficiency in media, the blogoshere, and social media as well as have a keen familiarity with communications and public relations.

The Conversation Analyst must have a comprehensive understand how new media affects business, products, markets, personnel, outside influencers and others. S/he must have the ability to succinctly convey this knowledge to the media and account team members. The Conversation Analyst must have a solid grasp of public relations, and be able to recommend a variety of communication strategies and tactics to his/her team and public relations account teams. S/he must be able to work effectively and provide sound counsel to junior staff on account teams. S/he must have experience with blogs, chat rooms, forums, social networks, etc.  The Conversation Analyst should have between three and six years’ experience and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Client Servicing

  • Builds relationships with Company contacts and provides proactive counsel
  • Understands competitive landscape and how it impacts clients
  • Manages multiple projects for multiple teams from concept to training on time and on budget
  • Accurately estimates expenses and time allotment for tasks
  • Proactively manages correspondence (i.e. daily updates, activity reports, etc.)
  • Participates in client presentations
  • Researches as needed
  • Trains staff to complete projects

Writing and Editing

  • Conducts social media & blog monitoring
  • Researches, interviews, writes/ edits/ updates reports for clients about trends, issues and opportunities in new media
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and strategic skills to present data & make recommendations to clients
  • Teaches and trains staff on new and emerging technology writing
  • Develops responses and advice in keeping with clients’ objectives
  • Has solid understanding of key client information including general business strategy, industry issues, products and services offered, key customers and competitors in the marketplace
  • Understands general principles of business and marketing and the role of PR in the communications mix
  • Uses proprietary methodologies where relevant
  • Has knowledge of agency services and ability to talk intelligently about agency at internal and external meetings and industry functions

Planning, Organization and Research

  • Has effective project management working closely with teams
  • Has a solid understanding of “big picture” social media; maintain awareness of and activities and how they relate to overall objective/target
  • Participates in brainstorms
  • Conducts online research

Financial Planning and Management

  • Effectively works within account budget parameters and deadlines
  • Understands and participates in agency billing and invoicing procedure
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of expenses, working knowledge of over servicing and profitability
  • Computes personal timesheets and expense reports in a timely manner

Business Development

  • Assists with review of new business
  • Develops network of industry contacts; participates in relevant professional associations
  • Participates in drafting new business presentations

People Development

  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing and selecting Company personnel
  • Contributes to performance appraisal process for peers and managers
  • Engages in team building activities

Leadership

Measuring Progress

A Conversation Analyst will be at the senior level of the job, working toward Senior Conversation Analyst responsibilities, when s/he demonstrates the following:

  • Under minimal supervision, has a complete understanding of job tasks and an ability to perform them easily
  • Has a solid understanding of all new and emerging technology tools and how it affects the client; strong marketing and research skills
  • Trains via Company University, client contact and industry-wide on new and emerging technologies and teaches account team members on an one-on-one basis
  • Conducts more comprehensive research, learning new technology and best methods/practices
  • Applies understanding of industry to daily research and planning future client initiatives
  • Maintains quality communications regarding program progress, and advises Company team on industry updates
  • Develops solutions to a wide variety of problems, including those in program management, client relations and balancing reports’ workloads
  • Must be able to work independently and under general direction with minimal supervision
  • Has developed strategic thinking skills
  • Instills high level of trust by supervisors
  • Adeptly reports progress to supervisors
